Melinda Becker is a program director in the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center), where she works with governors and their leadership on a variety of health care issues related to Medicaid and public health. Specific areas of focus include Medicaid waivers, long-term services and supports, and the opioid crisis. Prior to joining the NGA Center, Ms. Becker served as the legislative director for health and human services in NGA’s Office of Government Relations, where she led advocacy on the opioid crisis, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, Medicaid waiver reform and a host of other state priorities. She got her start in health policy as an advisor to a member of Congress from her home state of New York. Ms. Becker holds a master’s degree in health policy and management from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and a bachelor’s degree in history from Duke University.
